Day 19 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Day 19 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

I literally wrote down these words today " Love isn't afraid to feel so let your feelings show" which I think is affirming the poem I wrote yesterday. I found a way to include it in this poem about wonder. The one antler deer hung out in my backyard most of the day. The turkey comes home every night. How lucky am I?

Go put on your wonder compass and tell me what you find.

Day 18 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Day 18 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

I am a highly sensitive individual and an empath and sometimes I struggle with this because it's very hard to be a deeply feeling person in a world that doesn't value vulnerability, deep feeling, and emotions. I hold myself back, I stay quiet, I protect my heart from harm because it is so often hurt by others in pain who lash out.

I originally wrote this poem today about myself and changed it to reflect the many sensitive people in the world who like me struggle with showing the world who we truly are. If you see yourself in this poem please know your sensitivity is your greatest gift to the world.

Day 17 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Day 17 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Today I was thinking about my hands and all the lines and shapes of a person's hand. There is so much to write about when thinking about your hands.

How much our hands carry and caress and how many dishes we have washed.

So much to think about. I'm so grateful for my hands.

I have a postcard of this poem available to purchase in the extras section of my page on https://www.buymeacoffee.com/LauraKozyLanik

Day 16 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Day 16 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Today's poem is about our own unique journey. We are each on our own path in life and must respect each other's journey and celebrate it. So embrace the journey and buckle up for the ride because sometimes life is bumpy. Just remember to learn all that you can from your experiences and then grow.

Buckle Up Buttercup!

Day 15 of The 100 Day Poetry Project.

Day 15 of The 100 Day Poetry Project.

Today's poem is all about cultivating self-love and changing negative self-talk into positive self-talk. You need to love yourself first and take care of yourself. We need to love our body and appreciate all it does for us.

We need a Self-Love Revolution!

If you are enjoying my poetry consider buying me a coffee.

Day 14 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Day 14 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

What would the world be like if it rained down rose petals or lemon drops or dark chocolate? The possibilities are endless.

What else should I have rain down from the sky in this poem? Give me your suggestions.

Day 13 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Day 13 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Today's poem is about grief and transformation.

I started thinking about what lies between things and I realized that the people we love and who have moved into the next world are found in between. This is what I tried to illustrate.

I hope you find comfort in this poem.

You can buy a copy of this poem as a postcard in the extras section for one dollar on buymeacoffee.com/laurakozylanik.

Day 12 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Day 12 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

I'm thinking about gratitude today and was inspired to write a poem about it by African American poet, Ross Gay. He has a poem and book called Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude and I read it today and was thinking about what I'm grateful for.

The first sound I heard upon waking was the Turkey who sleeps in the tree near my bedroom. I really love this turkey. He is all alone and braving the below zero cold and he chose the tree near me in which to sleep every night and warble his morning greetings. I feel so blessed.

What are you grateful for today?

Day 11 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Day 11 of The 100 Day Poetry Project.

Dear Warriors,

Trust is so hard. Trusting others and trusting yourself is super important and it's something I'm working on. Every day I try to put on a little bit less armor than the day before and I think this project is helping me do that. I think we are all warriors in our daily lives, everyday we have a new battle to fight or survive whether we are dealing with a pandemic, identify theft, or fighting over the remote control.

So here’s to you, Warriors. You got this!!

With all my heart,

Laura Kozy Lanik

P.S. I have a postcard of this poem available for purchase in the Extras section on https://www.buymeacoffee.com/LauraKozyLanik

Day 10 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Day 10 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Do words appear in your dreams? They are prominent in my dreams and hold so much power. Words have the power to transport you. I always tend to dream that I am writing or as I drift off to sleep I try and grab onto a word and let it take me on a journey that I hope to remember when I wake up so I can write it down.

I also love to read and sometimes I dream myself into the book I'm reading. It's really quite fun.

This is an excerpt and rough draft of part of my poem today and I love where it's going. So exciting.

Day 9 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Day 9 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

IWhen I wrote this I was not feeling good at all and I thought I just have a common cold but who really knows unless you get tested. So I got tested for Covid after work and it turns out that I was negative for Covid. I've actually had the stick up my nose a few times and I've also done a spit test. Well, this is our new reality I guess.

Hopefully, all of you who've been tested can relate to this poem - Covid Testing.

Hoping you all get the vaccine soon too. Stay safe and Healthy.

Day 8 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Day 8 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Today when I was folding the laundry, this poem started forming. It always amazes me that you can write a poem about any mundane chore than you do repetitively like hanging clothes on the line.

I actually use to help my grandma hang the sheets and clothes on the line and I remember it fondly. When I was on an island in Greece, I was eating lunch outside and I turned my head and saw seafood hanging on a clothesline and it was surprising to me. I've never seen food drying on the line.

This is an excerpt of a first draft.

I think this poem has potential.

Day 7 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Day 7 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

This poem is about my former dog Titus and the dog who came to me and protected me while I slept several weeks ago. On January 24th, a man was arrested under my bedroom window at 3 am. I actually slept through the arrest but when I woke up and before I knew what happened, I remembered dreaming of a dog, and that dog was sitting on me and growling and facing the window the man was arrested under. Coincidence? I think-No.

I believe when our animals die they become our angels and spirit guides, especially if our bond is strong. So even though Titus is no longer physically with me, he is still protecting me while I sleep.

Day 6 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Day 6 of The 100 Day Poetry Project.

I have written many poems about my body and it continues to be a central theme in my poetry. I'm hoping to publish them in a book someday. I hope you like this new version.

I was sexually abused as a child and I still hold a lot of pain in my body and bad memories I want to expel. Writing poetry helps me heal.

You can find more versions of My Body on this blog, my Instagram feed, @Booksnob24, or my book, Upon Waking, 58 Voices Speaking Out From the Shadow of Abuse.

I have a postcard available for you to purchase for one dollar. Check in the extras section on www.buymeacoffee.com/laurakozylanik

Day 5 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Day 5 of The 100 Day Poetry Project.

Repeat after me: As long as I'm breathing, I will fight for my life. FIght cancer, fight racism, fight abuse and fight fear, fight for what you know is right.

This poem is a little bit me (conquering abuse and fear) and a little bit my cousin Sandy who has a brain tumor and is fighting cancer. She said to me after surgery: "I'm going to fight for my life."

Keep Fighting!

You can purchase a postcard of this poem for 1 dollar at this link:

Thanks so much for reading and supporting my poetry.

Day 4 of The 100 Day Poetry Project

Day 4 of The 100 Day Poetry Project.

This is a rough draft - very rough - of A Tornado in the Kitchen.
It's not my best first draft. Sometimes a poem comes in one draft and sometimes it takes 10 drafts to get it right and sometimes a poem is never done.
It's so hard to share your words with the world. I'm glad I'm doing this project and I'm hoping to let go of wanting perfection and just going with my gut.

I used to call my kids tornados because they would always leave a wake of debris but I've come to realize that I'm a tornado too.

What would a tornado in your kitchen look like?
